Day 4 & 5

I did not get a chance to update this yesterday, so you will get two posts for the price of one today. You are welcome.

Day 4
Last night was the season premiere of How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) so I moved my pumpkin fest to Ben's apartment. Ben, Kristina, and I had been watching the previous seasons via DVD & internet bootlegs for the last several months. We would take turns cooking dinner and/or supplying the beer... I know, cute, right. I have not mentioned this before, but Ben is also embarking on the 44 Days of Pumpkin because he, too, loves him some pumpkin so HIMYM was the perfect opportunity for us to cook together. We had big plans of making some homemade pumpkin ravioli... and it would have been delicious, you know, if I would have arrived on time to Ben's. (Fine, I will tell you why I was late. I had to work late on Monday and then I could not stop myself from stopping at Crossroads and buying a pair of jeans on my way to his apartment. Do not judge me, people.) Ben was less than impressed with my "decision to be late when we had plans to make ravioli." What can I say, he loves pumpkin and he is crazy about time... but I digress. The ravioli was off the table so we settled on the Penne-wise Pumpkin Pasta, courtesy of the lovely Rachael Ray and Food Network. (Adorable alliteration, agreed?) Ben & Kristina loved it, but I was merely a well wisher. I thought it needed a little something extra, perhaps some chopped veggies. If you decide to make it make it yourself you should reduce the chicken stock a bit because the sauce was a bit thin. Unfortunately, the QFC on Broadway is still out of pumpkin puree. But don't worry, I brought my own can from home.

Day 5
Before I left for the bus this morning I grabbed my pumpkin & black bean soup for today's lunch since we will be having dinner with my friend, Heather, and her new baby girl, Madden, tonight. As I unload my bag at work, I think to myself, "hmm, my soup is looking quite thick this morning." Yeah, I grabbed the container of leftover pumpkin puree and not the soup. Good job, Jamie! But don't you worry your pretty little heads - I also had a nice slice of homemade pumpkin bread with me. Crisis Adverted. By the by, the bread is delicious.

Speaking of crisis - there is a crisis unfolding. Friends, there is a canned pumpkin puree shortage. It is true and I am little nervous. My wonderful friend from work sent me a news article this morning that explained that the shortage is based on the weather but there will still be pumpkins for people to carve for Halloween, blahblahblah. Apparently these people do not know about my plans or else they would have been a bit more concerned about this shortage. (Pumpkin Shortage Article) Obviously, I panicked a little bit and then did what any savvy internet blogger would do - I jumped on Amazon and ordered a case of Libby's Pumpkin Puree. That is right, I ordered 26 pounds of pumpkin puree from the internet to be delivered to my doorstep. The Great Pumpkin Adventure shall continue.
