Day 3

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!!! I decided that I can not rely solely on pumpkin beer to keep this shindig rolling so today, my friends, we cook. But first, Kristina and I had to stock up on the necessary provisions. And by necessary provisions I mean pumpkin beer... just kidding. We stopped at two (2) QFCs, one (1) Safeway, one (1) Whole Foods and one (1) Bartells looking for cans of pumpkin puree, and we failed at each stop. There was pumpkin pie filling, but no pumpkin puree to be found. (To the person hijacking my puree and my plan - please, don't be ass and leave me a can or two next time.) By this point I was starting to worry. Sure, I have a whole pumpkin that I could use but I really do not want to spend the next 41 days cooking whole pumpkins. On a whim, Kristina and I walked to the ghetto corner market down the street from our house and low and behold - CANNED PUMPKIN PUREE! That place never lets me down.

Nice cans, Jamie.

Kristina and I made a delicious Pumpkin and Black Bean Soup for dinner (thank you, Rachael Ray and Food Network.) Because reading and measuring are hard we ended up with a double batch. I am going to freeze a couple of servings in case I encounter a day when I refuse to cook. Or that jerk swipes all the canned pumpkin again. Either way, I am set. I also baked my first loaf of pumpkin bread which I will enjoy tomorrow morning for breakfast. I will let you know how it tastes.
If you have a favorite pumpkin recipe - share it with me and I will share the experience with the world (or the two people that read this blog.) Neil Patrick Harris is demanding my attention so peace out!

  2. Bunnie shared your blog with me and I like what I'm reading! Last year I made pumpkin ice cream from scratch and it was unforgettable. You'll need an ice cream maker, but let me know if you want the recipe. It's pretty amazing with caramel drizzled on top!
