Day 27

Day 26
Last night Kristina and I met a few friends at El Chupacabra on Phinney for some tacos and cheap beer. (We love you, Anne, and we are thinking of you and your family!) Another group of eight arrived just moments before we did and El Chup does not specialize in catering to large groups so we were worried that our plans were squashed. (Get it, squashed.) Have no fear, two dudes in coveralls offered to take a small table by the door so we could have their 6 person table. At first I thought they did this because they have hearts of gold but then I realized that you cannot hear anything other than the “music” blaring from the speaker behind the table. Thanks for nothing, Coveralls! As always happens in these situations, a few random words were heard loud and clear over others:
“…TACO BELL…”
“…FIELD OF DREAMS…”
“…BALLS…”
“…KANSAS CITY…”
Obviously we had very stimulating conversation. At this point you may be asking yourself, “That’s nice, Jamie, but what does any of this have to do with pumpkin? I am here for the pumpkin!”

Hold your pumpkins, y'all, I am getting there. I decided to make a batch of pumpkin cookies to take to El Chup for dessert. Seriously, I need to stop carrying baked goods in my bag because I am starting to feel like an old lady, albeit an extremely lovely and nearly wrinkle-free old lady. What? I found a pumpkin cookie recipe on the line and whipped up the little goodies before we went to dinner. Fast forward to dessert time – the waiter walks over so I politely offer him a cookie from the Tupperware and he accepts it. He returns, not even 45 seconds later, to say, “What is this glaze?” “Oh, that… it is a buttermilk and sugar glaze.” “Yeah, I would keep the glaze…” and then walks away. Oh, really – you can suck it, El Chup Waiter. Not that I was bitter that he did not love my cookies. I mean, they are just cookies. It is not like they are a representation of my worth as a human. Or a pumpkin connoisseur. It is fine, no big deal. Thankfully, Brian did make me feel better by eating three cookies. People, the cookies (and the glaze) are good. I have some on my desk if you want to try for yourself.

REWIND - Day 25
I had leftover pumpkin bread for breakfast and pumpkin curry for lunch. I have learned my lesson and stopped there.
