Day 27
I have been looking at recipes for Pumpkin Pear Soup since I started this crazy adventure – hello, I love pumpkin and I love pear so how can this be wrong? Onions. The onions made this wrong. Oh so very wrong. A tear just slid down my check as I think about this soup again. I need a moment because I am a little verklempt. Okay. The recipe called for two (2) onions but we scaled back to ¾ of one large onion. The recipe also says to run the cooked soup in a hand blender but I skipped that step thinking, “pfff, I am not an infant – I can chew the random pear chunk.”
Let me set the scene: Kristina and I sit down with our Pumpkin Pear Soup and turkey gruyere with pear spread sandwiches. I take a bite of the soup and wince. I take a second bite and cry out, “that ain’t right.” Then my eyes start watering from the onion. After several more painful and tear filled bites I decided to puree my bowl of soup with my Magic Bullet. It was better – much better – but the damage had been done.
Day 28
Last night we had delicious pumpkin ravioli from Whole Foods. With a side of tater tots. While watching an episode of Gossip Girl. Obviously this is the epitome of class.
